Jordan and Jarvis are brothers, ages 23 and 20 and a half. The half a year is very important because everyone thinks they are twins, but Jordan is quick to reply, “No. We are two and a half years apart!” Jordan has graduated from public school and works four days a week at Endeavors Adult Development Center where he has many jobs from packaging sponges for 3M to janitorial work to going to their bird seed store and packaging bird seed or delivering it to area grocery stores. He also cleans a church, helps make lunches at the County Jail, cleans a State rest area (yuk!), and goes to the Pepsi plant and dumps out outdated pop (all the while drinking as much as they want).
Jarvis is working at Endeavors for the summer, but has one more year of public school. He will be a SENIOR and is very excited about this! Both boys, well young men actually, are very involved in Special Olympics here in Wisconsin. They are also still active with our church youth group and go to all of their activities. Jordan likes to deer hunt with his Dad while Jarvis would rather go with Dad in the loader truck to pick up scrap iron or the semi truck when they take a load in to the shredder.
As you can see by the picture and the smiles, both of our guys are very happy and outgoing. They are known as the greeters wherever they are. No matter where we go, they
run into someone they know
and are quick to say hiNo matter where we go, they run into someone they know and are quick to say hi and give them a friendly hug and ask them how they are doing. I have heard a million times how they have brighten someone’s day. When the nurse called to tell me that I was pregnant with Jarvis, we were not expecting this so I didn’t sound so excited, and I will always remember her saying, “you know, sometimes these unexpected ones are the biggest blessings”. Well, Jarvis came, and then later as we found out that he and Jordan had Fragile X, and as life has moved on, we now have experienced that both our sons have been and continue to be the BIGGEST BLESSING in our life!
love that they’re always running into people they know!
Great story Lorraine. I’m so blessed to know my “buddies”. They make me smile EVERY time I go to church. You are truly blessed. Thanks for sharing this story!
I too have two sons with FXS ages 28 and 23 and your sons sound a lot like mine — involved in life, recreation and very social. It hasn’t always been easy, but it is very rewarding when they reach this age and you can look back and see how far they’ve come!
Good looking young men! They must get their good looks from their uncle!!
Great story! Thanks for sharing:)
