One thing I have found through the years is that Nick touches people in a very unique way. Nick has a way of attracting people with his smile and happy demeanor. One story I love to tell is, for many years we visited Scenic Helicopter Tours in Sevierville, TN, during that time Nick really enjoyed becoming a part of the “Scenic Family”. The ground crew would harass him like a little brother to get him to go on a flight.
Well on June 8th 2006 in true Fragile X fashion the crew found the key and asked Nick if he could “Help” Richard (one of the pilots) with one of the helicopters. Nick is all about helping
and having a purpose to
what he’s doing.Nick is all about helping and having a purpose to what he’s doing. As Nick was helping Richard start his helicopter, Nick was asked if he could help Richard move the helicopter. Nick said OK. As we softly lifted off, Nick was ecstatic that he was off the ground. As the helicopter gained altitude he was so excited, he started shaking the pilots hand and giving him high fives. As soon as we landed Nick headed into the office to share what he had done. I true Nick fashion he gave high fives, handshakes and hugs telling them “how proud he was of them”.
It was a life changing experience for the then twelve-year-old. “Nick’s life’s successes are built on his positive experiences and every trip to Scenic has been a building block to his future.”
Thank you, Joe, for sharing this wonderful story of Nick! He is one person I can never forget! He amazes me. So do you! LOVED seeing him this summer!
what an incredible experience!
