Fundraisers: Golf Outings in Michigan and an Open House in Illinois

14th Annual Golf Outing – South Rockwood, Michigan

ba1968ea5e834a34952341af4e5fd68eI’m not normally a jealous person, but that’s what I was feeling when I talked recently with Nina and Frank Liberati about how much fun they have organizing their annual golf outings! And I don’t even play golf!

I saw sheer joy on their faces as they shared with me how many people in their lives have come forward over the years to help them make the event successful. I thought to myself how truly amazing and wonderful it is to have so many generous people give their time and energy to raise money for the (FXAM). We should all have that experience of community.

No one asks for Fragile X to be a part of their lives, but Nina, Frank, and Laureen Majeske (longtime FXAM president) have made it their business to invite as many people as they can to be a part of Fragile X. And join they do: This year’s event had the most golfers and raised the most money ever, completing the circle of giving in which everyone benefits.

The annual golf outings are just one of the many ways FXAM raises money every year to support local families, provide educational opportunities, and financially support the NFXF. We are very appreciative of the hard work that each FXAM member contributes to their and our success. Thank you!

Lizzie’s Open House – Geneva, Illinois

Lizzie's_ipod_pics_232“I’m a different person, a better person now for having organized this event. I never thought I could do it and have it be a success!” Nancy Reilly told me that more than nine years ago after the first Lizzie’s Open House. Nancy is Lizzie’s mom, and Lizzie has fragile X syndrome.

I love this story because it really shows how empowering embracing a challenge can be.

Just like the Liberatis and their FXAM members, Nancy got her community involved in raising money for Fragile X. Each year, several of her friends and acquaintances join “Team Lizzie” by staging an open house with many home-based and local businesses participating. Donors generously offer great shopping and enticing raffle prizes to make for a perfectly delightful afternoon.

Team Lizzie already has plans underway to make the 10th anniversary of Lizzie’s Open House the biggest and most profitable event yet. Thanks to your team, Nancy, for your continued support!
