PUBLISHED FOR FRIENDS OF CONQUER FRAGILE X FOUNDATION
Fall 2005 Newsletter
NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT

I have so much wonderful news to tell you! We have been so busy here with all the new endeavors you will read about in this edition. We have formalized an Alliance of those involved and interested in International Fragile X Research. The Alliance clearly emphasizes the need for sharp focus on working toward a cure. While education and outreach is very important, we are all about a cure. It is important that individuals and organizations from all around the world work together to make sure our collective focus on a cure remains razor

sharp. I am thrilled to tell you that Alec and Sheila Engelstein will host a cocktail party for the benefit of Conquer Fragile X Foundation in January, 2006. Rosalee Davison has graciously offered to serve as chair of the event and with Sheila and Rosalee working together on this, we look forward to a wonderful time! We expect several special guests, including you!

Sarah Powell, or “Tizzy” as she is called by close friends like Londonbased CFXF Director Jennifer Jaques and her husband, Andrew, ran the London Marathon for CFXF in

April. Look inside for pictures of Sarah celebrating her great achievement! She had such wonderful success earning donations for CFXF, that she has decided to run the ING-New York City Marathon in November for us! Please see the donation card on page 3 and be as generous as you can. Let’s give our friend from “across the pond” all the support we can.

Finally, I thank each and every one of our donors, without whom we would not be able to continue our work. Your generosity brings us closer each day to a cure for fragile X.

CFXF DIRECTOR ARTHUR ROSENBERG JOINS HURRICANE KARINA HELP EFFORTS

Long time director and supporter of CFXF, Arthur Rosenberg, is also a pilot with a private airplane. Small craft pilots have been critically important in the recent Katrina relief efforts, moving survivors and supplies from place to place, for some the only link to survival. Arthur belongs to several volunteer pilot groups, such as Angel Flight, who have been very busy since Katrina hit. Arthur spent the week following Katrina flying between Atlanta, Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama, moving physicians, medical supplies, and food and water to the hard hit areas and returning families to safety and new homes.

To learn more about Arthur Rosenberg’s relief flights, read his log and see more pictures, go to his Katrina website at http://www.arandagroup.com/katrina.html. Thank you, Arthur, from all of us. We are very proud of you and your hard work and proud to have you as a CFXF Director.

VISIT HISTCITE AT CFXF-ON-THE-WEB!!

CFXF and Dr. Eugene Garfield, Chairman Emeritus, Thompson (Institute for Scientific Information) have partnered to present HISTCITE to the Fragile X Community. HISTCITE, a web-based resource that catalogues and presents published scientific research, is exclusively available to the Fragile X Community via the CFXF website. Three HISTCITE searches are available at www.cfxf.org; searches on “Fragile X”, “Fragile X AND Autism”, and “Fragile X AND Parkinson’s Disease”. Each of these searches returns a wealth of information on what research is being done and what we are learning. Families, researchers, practitioners, or anyone interested in learning more about the news in fragile X research will find HISTCITE to be a very useful tool. We are very grateful to Dr. Garfield and his team for helping CFXF bring such a wonderful tool to the fragile X community. To view and read the searches and items, visit ww.cfxf.org and click on the HISTCITE link.
