How The Promise Cube Came To Be Bill Parker is the father of five children, three with Fragile X. One evening, he sat with his daughter Sophia, who has Fragile X, and read her a bedtime story. They came to the part of the fairytale where the princess marries the prince. Sophia looked up at her Dad and asked him, "Daddy, will I ever get married?" Touched by the question and wondering how to answer, Bill responded, "I don't know honey, but I promise I'll do all that I can." This exchange caused Bill to seek a way to make the dreams of all children with Fragile X come true, and the Promise Cube was born. It all began with one promise to one little girl with Fragile X. The Cube is back…for a cause The Promise Cube is a customized Rubik's Cube® that serves as a symbolic reminder of the research puzzle presented by Fragile X Syndrome. The 54 squares on each cube represent the coordinated effort needed from many individual donors in order to solve that puzzle. How you can help The National Fragile X Foundation needs you to take the challenge—to become a volunteer in our Promise Cube Campaign. Through this campaign, we will raise much-needed funds for Fragile X research. Our campaign volunteers—called Cubers—take on the job of signing up donors for Fragile X research. As a Cuber, your goals is to find 54 donors, one for each square on the Promise Cube. The donors are called Promise Makers—because they make a promise, a pledge, to donate a specified annual amount for five years. DONATE NOW: Click Here or on the form below to get a PDF version to fill out. Become a Promise Maker The National Fragile X Foundation needs your help to solve the research puzzle presented by Fragile X Syndrome. We ask for help in the form of a five-year commitment to donate a specified annual amount to support research. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and your donation is tax-deductible. Why we ask for a five-year commitment The search for a cure is a long-term effort that requires perseverance and sustained effort. A five-year commitment ensures that a level of needed funding will be available without interruption in the immediate future. In subsequent years, you will receive updates from the Foundation so you know how the research is going and what strides have been made. How your money will be put to use One hundred percent of your donation will be used to advance research on Fragile X. You choose the amount you want to promise each year, and you choose the child in whose honor you want to make your gift. A stamp with a photo of "your" child will be placed on a square of a Promise CubeTM. Don't be square—be a Cuber! Take the challenge! For the last quarter-century, young and old alike have enjoyed the challenge of Rubik's Cube®. Now you can take on the challenge of the cube for a good cause—raising funds for research to help solve the puzzle of and find a cure for Fragile X Syndrome. The challenge is to fill up a Promise Cube by finding a sponsor—a Promise Maker—for each of the squares on the cube, 54 in all (nine squares per side, six sides per cube). A Promise Maker agrees to a specific annual donation for five years. The idea is simple, and the cube is a symbol that helps keep Cubers focused on the goal. Think of the satisfaction you'll have, knowing that you've helped to raise a significant amount to advance the cause of Fragile X research. Just fill out the Promise Card and we'll send your "Campaign in a Cube" with everything you need to get started. We ask that you make a $25 donation of your own to help cover the cost of your Promise Cube kit. The "Campaign in a Cube" Your Promise Cube kit—your Campaign in a Cube—comes with complete instructions and everything you need for a successful campaign: A booklet of Commitment Forms to record donations, marketing materials to help you secure Promise Makers, and, of course, the Promise Cube itself.
