Fundraising Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in fundraising for the National Fragile X Foundation! We truly value your efforts to help raise crucial funds for the programs and services we provide to the Fragile X community. The NFXF is here to provide support through every step of the fundraising process. In order to protect our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, we have created the following stipulations and guidelines for individual fundraisers. These are also intended to ensure a mutually beneficial experience for fundraisers and the organization.

  1. All materials (online, print, interviews, invitations, announcements, etc.) should note the NFXF website and should state that the proceeds will benefit the NFXF. Please send all materials to the foundation for review before making them public.
  2. Fundraising activities must also be reviewed by the NFXF to ensure that they reflect its mission and core values.
  3. Once approved, the NFXF can help promote your event, when appropriate, through:
    • The foundation website event calendar (with a link to the event or organization’s website, if available).
    • The NFXF Quarterly journal.
    • Email notifications, direct mail, and Facebook and Twitter announcements.
    • Various other NFXF publications.
  4. The National Fragile X Foundation adheres to the Association for Fundraising Professionals Donor Bill of Rights. We ask that all NFXF fundraisers follow these guidelines where applicable.
  5. Fundraising events and programs must comply with all relevant state and federal laws.
  6. 100% of proceeds must be forwarded to the NFXF. All donations will be databased and acknowledged with a thank-you letter, and will include the NFXF’s tax-exempt status.
  7. Please turn all cash donations into a cashier’s or bank check prior to forwarding them to the NFXF. Send check(s) with all event proceeds, payable to:
    National Fragile X Foundation
    1615 Bonanza Street, Suite 202
    Walnut Creek, CA 94597

The 2004 Nonprofit Integrity Act requires nonprofits to exercise control over fundraising activities conducted by them and sets forth prohibited and required acts in the planning and execution of fundraising activities. The National Fragile X Foundation conforms to these laws and the policies and procedures in place to assure compliance. To learn more, visit the California Attorney General’s Guide for Charities.
